BC is velocity driven, I am willing to bet 0.381 for the 30-06 is correct, if your looking for the BC of that bullet for reloading then pick the one for the velocity range you in, 2800 fps 0.381, 3100 fps use 0.4

thanks yodave
I will have to do this drop chart thing now that the range is open
but I'm out looking for a bear tomorrow so I guess I'll have to use the ol' 30-06
oh well...

the effective range of the 300BLK on bear is what 125-150 yards??? pretty sure it's a point and shoot thing now and a nice to know later when you have more time

maybe but maybe not
I used to think 125yds was "the range" for 357mag on bear with 158grain bullet at 1800fps (and it did work)
but to my delight the 300 blk is capable of 1800fps with 180gr 30 cal bullet which means I could stretch it to maybe 200yds
I have chosen the win power point because in my testing winchester uses a softer lead which would expand at lower velocities.

you will only drop about 4 inches at 200, but 12 inches at 300. I primarily shoot 125 and 155 grain bullets in mine and shoot to 300 regularly at steel plates, given how much energy transfer I see on the plates I don't think I'd hunt beyond 150 yards with that load, the bit of extra bullet weight may help however.

for comparisons sake, they show the 300 savage at 2300 fps with a BC of 0.281 with a 180 grain bullet
