Hey everyone

I was thinking about buying my daughter her first gun to shoot trap with me, She has been shooting for only a month now and using my wifes Weatherby Sa-08 or my BPS.

The two guns i was thinking for her are the Winchester Sxp or the Remington 870 express... If you can help me that would be great.....

They both fit way different so buy the one that fits her better.

I don't believe the SXP comes with shims for cast or drop either.

both guns are very different in terms of fit and quality.
The newer 870 looks and feels cheap to me, some people have also said that they cant use steal head ammo, must be brass or it wont extract I dont know how true it is, but thats what i heard.

The SXP is a well made firearm, event though it doesn't really look it, it offers less felt recoil due to stock design. The forearm feels a little sloppy but is still solid. The stock is very close to the browning stock in terms of fit, not identical, but similar.
Both guns have their pros and their cons, but in the end, the SXP was a better choice for me

If your daughter likes the Browning BPS, then she will like the SXP.

In any case, fit is the most important aspect of picking a shotgun, best advice is to take her to the gun shops and shoulder as many as possible.

good luck.

My first shotgun was an 870 express. My friend's SXP lead me to purchase the SX3 (I wanted a semi-auto), as it fit me a lot better than my own 870.

I like both, in terms of flawless function, but the Winchesters are my favourite, either in pump or semi-auto configuration.

I used a friend's 870 last year for waterfowl hunting, and just bought myself a SXP for hunting this year. Took the SXP out and shot some clays with it, and I'm in love. Feels great, its a little front heavy but otherwise is fairly balanced. It does not come with shims as someone previously indicated, but I tried it out in store (good luck finding one in Ontario) and it shouldered very well out of the box. Going to be a good year hunting with this gun.

The lower priced versa max is not a bad option either. My boy just bought the black synthetic model..just above the sportsman..and loves it. Very little recoil but a bit on the heavy side.

I'd let her pick the gun she likes best and get her to handle it first. I bought my girlfriend a Remington 1100 cause it was an amazing deal and she still prefers my browning silver so it barely gets used (except by me). Letting her pick the gun will guarantee she gets more joy from it and even if it had cost me more, that's what I would have preferred.
