Hi Folks,
I picked up a Win94 top eject, from the late 70's or early 80's. It's a shooter for sure, and I plan on keeping it. It has survived two police confiscations prior to me owning it, and I got a great deal because the person who bought it originally can't own guns now.
I cleaned all the surface rust off it, replaced the rear sight, and had to re-aligned the barrel bands. I haven't yet taken the action down, which will be next for a good scrubbing. The bluing on it is still good, except for the typical crystal-like spotting on the receiver.
The issue I'm having is the action. Sometimes when I chamber a round, I have to literally yank on the lever as hard as possible to get it to come out. Sometimes it cycles well, other times I wonder if I'm going to break something trying to get the round out. Keep in mind this rifle only ever had 200 rounds put down the pipe. My guess is I'll have to take down the receiver and give it a good scrub, but what else could cause this? It cycles perfectly without ammo.
The other small issue I'm having is with loading the tube mag. If I push a round all the way in, and let the lip close, it will lock shut. I am not able to feed multiple rounds unless I push the rounds in with the tip of the next. This causes a slight bit of deformation in the lead tips. Is this normal?
When the rifle works, it shoots well, so when these issues are cleared up I will more than likely use this instead of my Mosin for deer.
