I have an older model Winchester 101 and it is misfiring the first barrel intermittently. Top or bottom. It happens on the first shot does not matter which order you select. I like the gun and shoot it well. What should I do?
Thanks.

What should I do you ask?
Well, if it where me I would be calling a real gun store like Ellwood Epps or several of the others who have actual gunsmiths or will direct you to a competentgunsmith and ask them the very same question.
In the mean time Do Not Shoot this gun till the issue is resolved.
Oh, has it been cleaned recently?

Take the butt stock off and clean it. Likely 20, 30 or 40 years of crud in there. 101's are under rated, love mine and shoot it all the time.

I was about to post the same thing! My 101 manual even says to occasionally put a drop of oil in each firing pin hole. For years I have used rem oil. I attach the little straw to the can and ever so slightly put a light drop in the pin holes. 37 years and never a ftf in probably 50,000+ rounds.

Check the face of your firing pins, do they look pitted? I've replaced both on a 20 in the past and figure I'll be doing the same on my 12 along with the mentioned stock removal for a full clean/inspection.

Top pin started giving me issues just lately and that's what it looks like.

That's it together. Carried lots as seen when I was younger for grouse, 26" skeet/skeet.

The OP notes that it's not the same barrel each time regardless which order is selected. It's probably not a firing pin issue unless both are broken. I'd agree with the suggestions to take the stock off and clean the trigger mechanism.

I've been having issues with my Winchester 96 O/U (plain version of Winchester 101). It failed to fire the lower barrel only, approximately 15% of the time. After 3 trips to an established gunsmith and no cure, I cleaned firing pins, replaced firing pin and return spring, hammer spring - and finally observed that the lower barrel will eject empties without opening the action far enough to #### the lower. Trying to fire the lower barrel gave the same trigger feel and sound as dry firing empty gun.

Try removing the butt stock and firing the gun with snap caps, and opening carefully observing how the parts move.
