Winchester 1300 Folding Stock Suggestions.

If you must have a folding stock, Choate or Butler Creek.
Stay away from ATI.
If you get the Butler Creek that holds 3 shells in the stock it looks neat but they won't stay in under recoil. The butler Creek locks with only a little play.
No experience with the Choate.
Don't want any experience with the ATI stuff.

I have a choate on mine. Worked great for years but then cracked! It has a short steel section that connects to the hinge and the rest all the way to the butt is plastic! On discovering that I couldn't believe it lasted so long!
I liked it so much I repaired it (making it shorter) and still use to this day.
Take that reference anyway you want.
I have a butler creek folding wire on my mossberg. Its tough, been through hell. There is a smidge of play when its folded, but the vee is cut deeper so there is no play at all when opened up. You cant beat a folder in my opinion for tight brush, and going through slashes. Im short, 5'6", if I had a conventional stock id be snagging on every stump and log i came within ten feet of. the pistol grip is the most comfortable Ive ever fealt and cas a compartment inside which is perfect for keeping the registration. I must say though, the cheek area of the wire is too high for aimed shots, you gotta squeeze your cheek in there quite hard and shooting hot loads is uncomfortabe and bruises. It can be fixed with a torch though quite easily. Actually I always forget about it and Im going to do it today.
a friend of mine also has the plastic butler creek with a spot for three shells, his fall out under fire too, even just bouncing around on the quad. blue locktite the screws also and crank them tight. everyone who doesnt has them come loose
I had an ATI on my maverick, it locked up with little play but I never actually shot with it. The lack of recoil pad and small pistol grip turned me off. I was going to pick up a butler creek shell holder style from a local shop but the owner told me he had a few people bring them back broken just behind the locking mechanism. That and all the stories of shells falling out crossed it off my list. I handled the Knoxx folder in stores and the only contact point with your shoulder is one wire on the inside, it was uncomfortable just pulling it into my shoulder, and the recoil system adds a bit of length to it. Thanks for the info on the wire folder Fuzzynuts, that one was next on my list. Were you just going to heat it up behind the folding mechanism and bend it down? I bet that would work well. Jrock, did you try wholesale sports? they always have them when I'm in there. Barton's in Grande Prairie, AB always has lots in stock too
"...carry it while bow hunting..." You may want to re-think that. Isn't legal in a lot of places. Definitely not in Ontario. Does depend on where you are, of course.

I tried wholsale sports in kamloops bc and had no luck but a new one just opened in langly bc so maybe i'll give them a call. As far as not being fast enough for yogi I've had to instances while cow calling for bull elk where i've watched yogi sneaking in on me through a slash and its nice to have that extra protection sitting beside you when he finally gets close enough to see you. But i totally agree if its while your hiking it will be no help.
