I just bought a really good used Winchester 1300 in 20ga. The gun shoots great but it is a little long for my fiancee.

I wanted to know if it is possible to cut this down 3/4-1"?

It looks like the screw boss continues deeper into the hollow stock but I know that if I cut it that is it and I am stuck with it.

Anyone cut one of these synthetic stocks down?

I wouldn't suggest cutting a synthetic stock down. Too hard to get a new recoil pad fitted and sometimes not enough good plastic left for proper pad screw seating. I would suggest buying a wood stock and cutting it/fitting it with a good soft pad then just paint it black. If you are lucky you can find a complete wood stock set to swap it out. There are at least three different lengths of fore end so just make sure you know your lengths before you buy if you go that route. If you get frustrated with it I would likely be glad to take it off your hands and you could just go buy a new youth model mossberg LOL

Also be warned that with the 28" barrel, you'll be creating a muzzle-heavy gun when you use a shortened stock. Normally a 'youth' or ladies gun will have something like a 21" barrel. This won't be a problem if she has good arm strength and her only problem is short stature. But if she is petite in size and strength, your solution may feel very awkward to her.

The alternative is to keep the 20 ga. as is for yourself, and pick up a proper Youth/Ladies gun.

I thought about that, the problem was the price of this one vs new.

She actually shot it as is just fine and I actually walked her through all my other guns as well. It is weird, it seems as though it is not the LOP that is an issue but rather the reach to the pump. If she holds the old military guns at 9lbs she is fine, but a 6.5lb 20ga pump is awkward.

I think what we are going to do it wait for it to warm up a bit then get a case of target rounds and just have her shoot, maybe do some clay pigeon shooting as well and see if she is comfortable with the stock length.

but rather the reach to the pump

Some of the 'Ranger' shotguns had a corn-cob style fore-end, which is quite short. The higher end guns (for lack of a better term) had a full-length fore-end which comes right up to the receiver. Is that the problem?
