What would you suggest between the two: 1300 Defender or SXP Defender? If going with the 1300 with wood stock, how do you think the wood will hold up? Thanks.

Hold up to what?

Two of my rifles were bought new in 1957. They have been "well hunted" and not babied at all - there was no plastic trees back then and outside of a few dings here and there the wood is still sound/solid.

While I have a couple synthetic stocked guns now I mostly see them as a way for the mfg's to keep their costs down while solving a problem that really didn't exist - wood stocks are plenty tough enough even for relatively rough use.

1300 all the way. Both are good guns but the 1300 was built better and not as cheaply. I'm a huge 1300 fan and I bought a new SXP defender to compare. The SXP was a good gun but I sold it after a few months and the 1300 stayed. As mentioned wood stocks are pretty tough. If you use it roughly it may ding or scratch but the issues will be cosmetic.
