My father owns a old Winchester 1400 semi-auto 12 GA shotgun.
He uses it for upland game and waterfowl hunting.
In the 25 or so years he's owned it it has malfunctioned 3 times in a peculiar manner.
All 3 times that it's happened its done exactly the same thing.
We were shooting skeet.
The safety was ON, fingers or other objucts were OUTSIDE the trigger guard (nothing touching the trigger. Gun was pointed in a safe direction of course but thank god!)
1 shell was manually put in the chamber.
Magazine follower was pushed forward to release breech block.
When breech block closed gun discharged with safety still in the on position and nothing touching the trigger. (Slam fire)
We have taken it to several gunsmiths and they all claim they can't duplicate the problem and the gun is perfectly safe??
Anyone have a similar problem as this?
What should we do about it?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Eric
