I have my hands on this very old lever action rifle, and I am quite puzzled...
The gun has no writings on it except for the numbers on its rear sight.
By searching on the internet, I have established that it is a Winchester 1866 and more than likely a .44 cal.
It has the bronze receiver area, and a saddle ring, but NO writings on the barrel or anywhere else!!!
I have pictures but if you have any input to share I would be very appreciative.

Here's a YouTube video with a similar rifle:

Is there for wood on it , or not?
If there is no fore wood , just the barrel and mag tube, it will be a Henry, Before Winchester bought Henry out .
Most if not all had no wood, winchester started that in 1866 I believe. These where rimfire henry ammo. At one time Jon Taylor had a factory sealed box of Henry ammo on his table.
I am not a expert on these, have handled a couple , but it was yrs ago and I am not sure on what was on the barrels on the first ones.
1866 Winchester should have their name on it I would think, maybe a transition model?
There are Italian made modern repo, but they have proof marks, names.
A picture is needed, or 4.
