so as the title says i am asking about 1873 winchester replicas
uberti vs chaparral vs others

exterier finish (color case hardening wood)
smoothness of action
general all around quality is the uberti worth the extra cash
if and when i get one it will be in .357 mag short rifle configuration

I've shot & worked on quite a few Uberti's but only a smattering of Chaparrals.
The fit & finnish is usually a lot better on the Uberti but for the price the Chaparral is adequate.
Coming out of the box the actions on all differ greatly. All usualy function adequatly for plinking but for cowboy action competitions all will need action work in verying degrees from only spring changes or settings to complete trigger & action jobs depending what you want it for. I did one 66 Chaparrall (basicly the same action as a 73 only with a brass frame) that came out of the box with a 12 lb trigger pull. After changing the trigger spring with a $5 flat colt h.g. spring it came down to under 3lb. and the gun works as good and was as smooth as any Uberti I ever handled. The owner has used it in 2 cowboy matches without a problem & loves it.

If you are going to compete in cowboy matches with it & might want to short stroke it later on I don't know if any of the kits will work in the Chaparrall.

As to whether the Uberti is worth the extra mony only you can answer that being a student without a steady paycheck.

Uberti is nice, never have tried a Chaparral rifle. The Uberti's all shot well, like the look as well.
