Nice looking gun, I think it would look nice with a fixed scope like a Leupold 4x, but whatever you choose its a nice addition to a collection.

Well I put a Vari X III 6.5X20X40 on it and looks good! Going to have to wait for some nicer temp to try it out! Hope to post pics soon.

Nice.

I've been trying to track down any sort of modern 1885 for my dad, but he wants 38-55. I'd buy the 6.5 myself if I had the mad money.

Very sharp. My neighbour had the Browning version from a few years back with octagon barrel in 300 WSM. The thing is a work of art. I was checking out the selection at Prophet River a few nights ago, very tempting to go deeper in debt.

Hammer extension? Though it might get awkward to drop a cartridge in too.

Are the Winchesters capable of both extraction and ejection like the Browning?

We've got two ech coming in ten days or so in 22 lr, 17 HMR, and 22 WMR. First ones we've seen, can't wait.

The rifle looks tiny under that scope - is it a Low Wall? I have long regretted not snagging a Browning 1885 Low Wall in .243 Win when I had a chance - I liked it but was not really into single shot rifles in those days. Those older models were less than 6.5lbs IIRC and were available in .260 Rem too. I don't know why the newer Winchester offerings are so much heavier.

They are very nice rifles I have one in 1885 45-70 high wall I shot a 4 point Mulley in 2013 at 135 yards with 350 grain Speer hot core's at 2012 fps open sights. Very accurate gun.

Well it finelly warmed up, so out to the range, changed the scope to Vari-X III 3.5X10X40 and have tried a few loads. Tried IMR-4831- 45grains under Hornady 140gr sp. CCI-200 primer. and seated 3.030. It's coming together. I pulled the last round it would have been a nice group. 5 rounds at 100 yds.

Those slim falling blocks are begging for a low-profile scope with elegant, clean lines... target turrets just don't look right... nice gun in an excellent caliber... I'm sure it will see alot of use.
