Winchester 1886 load ?

Hope I'm putting this in the right place ?.
I've got an original 1886 receiver with new barrel on it in 45-70.The receiver is smokeless not bp so is ment for the higher pressures of smokeless. should I go with the loads ment for the trapdoor rifles or the marlin lever loads as they say in the books ?.In honestly it's a new rifle and just don't want to overload it.I wont use the loads for the bolt guns or the ruger single shots period !
Any help would be great !

Even a new 86 is not quite as strong as the Marlin, it is however stronger than the trapdoor.
If it was me, & i have loaded for 86s, 76s & 73s, I would use starting loads for the Marlin. Fire a number of rounds & increase as indicated. I would suspect you could safely go into mid Marlin range but I would stop there.

Senior: The new 86 is generally seen as stronger than the Marlin. Elmer Keith was loading the 1886 (nickel steel barrels, not black powder rifles) with loads equivalent to current Marlin loads 70 or more years ago.

The Winchester Model 1886 might be the strongest lever action rifle ever made. I have been a Winchester collector for many many years and have collected the model 1886 right from the start. I have never seen or heard of an 1886 rifle blown up. Now I am sure some where there has been one, I am just saying I have never seen or heard of one that has been. Unless someone did something very wrong when they made your rifle you will have no problems what so ever with the Narlin loads. Just work up to them to make sure. I might also add that I have owned and still own every caliber from the 33 to the 50 calibers and have shot them all a lot as well with no issues.
