Hi looking for some info on a Winchester 1894. Future son in law’s Grandpa died and had a couple rifles. One was a 22 Cooey 60 and the other a Winchester 1894. I’ve done some reading and have figured it is pre- 64 as it has the set screw on the bottom. I’ve tried matching the serial number on the Winchester site but can’t find anything. Reason being the serial number on the bottom of the receiver has two letters (L) in it. Originally I thought they were 1s which would have made the manufacture date 1928.

Looking for any info I can give to his family. I’ve told him to get his license and I’ll hold them until he does, but he is not a gun guy.

What would something like this be worth?

It's a takedown model with an octagonal barrel. From what I can see, it appears original, though maybe the wood has been refinished at some point. Bore condition matters, that's a big question mark. It certainly hasn't led a sheltered life.
