Hi this rifle has been in my family over 100 years , it has seen better days as it was used for decades to put food on my families plate in rural Manitoba .. The rifle was made in 1899 i understand , so whats the ''bluebook'' value? i would never sell it but just wondering for insurance reasons ..

It will depend on the mechanical condition. For a 30-30 - If the bore is strong and the action is working condition and there are no mechanical issues - then it is worth somewhere around $300-$500 if it's a 30-30, and a couple hundred more if it is a 38-55.

That is a rough guess only. Looks like the buttstock is basically matchwood, but it could be restored by patching new oieces in or complete replacement buttstocks are available. It's not a high value collector gun so it won't detract from vale to get that wood repaired or replaced. Personally I would get it repaired if possible because even the broken buttstock is part of your family's history and will mean more to you than a new replacement will. Your call though.

Diito on the value. The butt stock is off a rifle as well so it really doesn't matter if it's toast. You can advertise for a saddle ring carbine stock to return it to original condition if you care to. They aren't common but do come up from time to time, expect to pay a couple hundred for a decent example.

$150 as is, $450 after you spend $500 on parts and labour getting it all pretty again.

Should list around a grand in the EE, eh! :D

Dunno where a guy would get $300 for a beater grade truck gun, but if someone will pay... I wouldn't.

Cheers

Could be a factory order butt stock, and a SRC to boot. You can check with Cody museum to the actual configuration it came out with. It may be worth a penny or two more if it was lettered . I would not alter it as it has such family history. but do have it checked so it is safe to be fired,

Not likely but you can get it lettered with the Cody museum if you want to pay the money. All in all, an old 94 SRC in rough shape. If it has a family history like you say, it is worth more to your family than it is to a collector.

Who cares what it's worth.
To you and your family, no price tag.
Use it and put your own oowwees on it.
Knock somemore new off of it and pass her down.
Thanks for the post and the photos of the s'perieanced gal.

That old girl is in rough shape. I venture to say by the year (1899) its a 38-55.
Ive been told they start at $300.00 and the sky's the limit the closer you get to mint condition.

Stock is busted (oil soaked and probably rotten), finish is gone, its fairly rusty and some screw heads are starting to strip out.

If the bores ok you MIGHT get 100-200 bucks for it, if its anything like the outside of the gun then it only has value for the action.
