How much is a Winchester 1895 .405 worth? It has a barrel length from tip to front of magazine of about 23" and has a serial number 47008 (what year was it made?). It is immaculate shape having fired only 1 shot and the original box of shells with 1 300gr missing. Last marking on the side states patents up to 1898.
Original box of shells...Kynock .405" Winchester Cartridges; Nitro-Cellulose Powder; Non-Mercuric, non-corrosive caps; metal covered soft nose bullet 300 grns; quantity 10; manufactured at the Kynoch Factories of Imperial Chemical Industries Limited Metals Division Witton, Birmingham, England (are these worth anything?)(9 shells complete)

Nice find! If it is in that condition, they're not cheap. If you could post pics, it would certainly help determine a rough value though. I have seen Kynoch 405 at shows between $40 and $60 dollars.
Cheers,
Matt

Many in really good shape go for $2-3k from what I've seen. I used to have a site that you could get serial numbers off of for year of manufacture of them but have since lost it. Either way yours is early-ish manufacture as mine was made in 1911(according to seller) and has a serial number 79###. If it's in as good of shape as you say it is then it is likely worth a fair amount. It would pay to have it professionally appraised at a few places.

Found a dating site:

Says mine was actually made in 1915 and yours in 1904. If indeed in almost NIB condition worth a pretty penny.

For pricing check a few of the auction sites, do a search of some of the past auctions and find one that is in condition like yours and use this as an estimate for starting price,

Your gun is early enough that you can get a letter from Cody confirming it's configuration and DOM.

The OP asked me to upload some photos for him as he was not sure how to do it. Here they are:

Quite a nice rifle. The receiver does have a fair amount of bluing wear and there is a crack in the wrist, but the barrel and wood finish look quite nice.

Looks like a small gold mine in that gun! Don''t try and do a "finish" job on the wood. It's got a higher price as is!

The receiver looks darker in person (took the pictures under a light) and didn't see it before, had to look, there is a small crack on the top right side of the stock at the hammer. Thanks for uploading them Matt.
