Any pics?
Anyone ever see carbine 303's for sale? Always seem to be long barreled models.
Good idea get what you really want, the Browning/Winchester 1895s come up now and then and brand new ones in 30/06 can still be had from winchester. The only ones that are hard to find are the new made 1895 carbines as they were only made for a year or twoInteresting discussion, thanks for the responses. Seems the take away here is that the .405 chambering isn’t the way to go. I will keep looking and reading.
If you are going to pay the premium for an 1895 why not get it in one of the iconic cartridges if it appeals to you. A .405 will still kill whitetails and black bears or punch paper and make a loud noise if that is your desire. It is only money, no reason not play with what makes you smile. If it was purely about practicality then budget rifles in .30-06 would be all anyone shot.
Good points, all. In the end after I handled one in person the other day I wasn't all that taken with it. Ended up with a nice 1873 instead.
I sold one a little while back. Needed restoration. - dan
Are you sure it wasn’t in VG condition
Since my humour hasn’t been getting across lately I’m referencing the one currently on the e.e I’m “ VG” condition
Isn't the Winchester 1895 the main rifle that us president teddy Roosevelt used ?
Also curious how the 405 compaired to other rifles of the time like the sharps in range and stopping power ?
