I have a 1895 in 30US that is in need of a little TLC. The bore is done. I can't decide if I should have it rebored to 35 Win. although the year of the receiver is pre 35 Win. or get a barrel blank and make it a 303 brit.

I lose the markings with the new barrel but 303 is a little more convenient. I'd have to get dies and a reamer for the 35.

I know Nick at Vulcan can re-mark the barrel and the rest of the rifle is down to bare steel as it sits now. Not a collector rifle.

What would you all suggest???

I had one that was rebarreled in 338/06 a little overkill for anything in lower Manitoba but made brass from 30/06 it was later sold out west to a guy in big bear area.

I thought about 7.62X54 but I'd have to stretch the mag wider to fit the larger Dia. rim.

The problem with the 35 win is if the head space is to great I'd have to set back the barrel which messes up the fore stock fit or weld up the bolt face...The joys of messing with an old rifle that just wants to spend the rest of it's days hanging on a wall....

30-40 krag.

The serial number dates it at 1899. As much as I like wildcats, I'm thinking of keeping it somewhat period correct. So the 303 would be more correct than the 35 win.

Is Jamison still making 35 Win brass as there is a guy in MB that can get some. Can't recall his business name but I think he is also a Green Mt barrel importer.

Just a little update. I decided on the rebore so off it went to Mr. Jury in Red deer. The well worn 30cal 119 year old barrel is now a 35cal 12 twist barrel and it looks beautiful. I have 35WCF brass and ammo rounded up just waiting for the reamer now. Pictures to come when it's complete.

Just an update to this project. Some of the parts as they sit now. It's really starting to shape up!
