Winchester 1895 project

Here are a few more pictures of the project before blueing and case colouring. I don't have any pictures of it as it was....but it was your typical barn find.
The start of the polishing

Here is the washed out 1895 Winchester.

The repaired markings

This looks blued but it is in the white....polish to a chrome like finish

What steps did you follow for the polishing? I am also interested to know how you achieved this amazing reproduction of the letter engraving?

It was a very simple process really.....It started with boxing up all the parts and sending it to Vulcan gun refinishing.....the next step was an EMT for a deposit.
I don't have time to rebuild them...to busy shooting them. LOL.

The lettering was done by laser.....There may have been a shark involved to.

The letter restoration is stunning. Was it done by Vulcan as well. I have been trying for 3 years to find a way to redo my Carabine FN Browning 1900. Do you know the kind a laser machine used?

Vulcan is doing a really fine job on that. And I'm going to guess that the colour case is from the fellow back in NB or NS? I don't recall his name at the moment. Or is there another person here in Canada doing CCH'ing now?

In a way I like that you're doing a rebuilt shooter instead of leaving it as a sad worn piece. I'm all for maintaining the old ones in their original shape provided they had a respectful line of owners that kept up the basic cleaning and maintenance. But when I see old rusty barn finds then that's a different story and those are ripe for proper full spectrum restoring in my books.

Keep the pics of the progress coming please.

I'm pretty sure Vulcan subs out the work to a laser engraver. also the case colouring was sent to another shop.

Nick (Vulcan) does send out the engraving and any laser (micro) welding - I've had a couple winchester receivers (and a stack of M1s) refurbished by him with lettering restored. Top notch work every time.

There are a few, but the 'gentleman in NB or NS' is probably Oskar Cobb. https://www.oldguns.ca/restoration-services.html

I talked to Nick this Friday regarding the engraving and he confirmed that it was done by laser. He kindly passed on the name of the company that does laser engraving. To reproduce the letter I believe they scan the written on the receiver and obviously rework the image in order to grave it. Does anyone have an idea of the program that is used.

This project is taking a little longer than anticipated but is moving along. I don't have it back yet but received some pictures.

I just got myself a "modern" 1985 in 405 Winchester and did a lot of research about the history of 1895. All suggestions above is good but make sure the receiver will withstand the pressure of the cartridge you want to use in the receiver. The 30US or 30-40 was a 40000 CUP pressure cartridge and if it was me, I would stick to an "older" but current cartridge like a 35Rem or 348 Winchester or perhaps 405 Win that was used in lever actions.

Good luck and share the final product with us!

It truly is a thing of beauty....Work of art one might say. Destine to rot in a barn, it's been resurrected...well beyond it's former glory.
Can't wait to take it out this WT season.

What bullet are using to load for 405 Win? I've seriously been toying with the idea of a modern 1895 in 405

I struggled to get brass as Hornady no longer selling the brass only but still selling the ammo. I bought a couple of boxes and once shot, I will be reloading the Barnes TSX.
