Hi there, just picked up a clone of a Win 1897 pump in 12 ga. I am quite taken with it, finish is nice, wood is really nice, and I like the looks of the thing for sure. But I do have a question re cycling.

After the gun has been shot, it requires a little nudge forward on the pump, before it will rack back. If slam firing, it does not, just keep on pumping with the trigger held down. I could learn to give it the little nudge, but I have not experienced this on any other pump gun. Comments, advice, feedback appreciated.

Also, chokes. It has a screw in choke, pretty sure its CYL, are there other chokes available, and which manufacturers choke would fit the factory thread?

Thanks

That little bump forward is required to unlock the slide on all 97;s that have been closed but not fired, even the old originals, it is not noticed when you fire the gun as the recoil takes care of the lock for you... It's working as designed.

Edited for clarity after reading your post again:

When you are firing the gun without slam firing you must be holding the slide back against the internal slide lock so that it isn't unlocking...recoil "usually" bumps the slide enough to unlock it. When slam firing you are automatically pushing the slide far enough ahead to override the lock. the slide only has to move a fraction of an inch past fully closed and locked position to unlock.
