Hi! I reading in couples of forum that the original Winchester 1897 Riot gun 20 inch barrel was made with CYL choke only. I want to know if this informations is real. In my Winchester book, the 1897 was made in different choke full to cyl. I have one Riot gun 1909, 20 inchs barrel, take down with full choke marked in barrel and I think is a real Riot gun not a standard 1897 with cut off barrel.

I have an original riot gun, and it is marked cylinder. Full choke seems counter productive for any riot gun. The problem is that they made so many variations and special orders that you may never find out, but you may be able to tell if the barrel has been cut. Usually they weren't machined or anything, someone just had at it with a hacksaw. And with the popularity of cowboy shooting, I would be more inclined to say it was cut

Do you know in what book is its possible to found more informations or the caractéristiques of the CYL choke for the Riot Gun? I found nothing about that!

Real riot guns with the full chokes were actually made. Now, the bores were cylinder in fact and the stamp "full" should be crossed out from the factory and "cyl" stamp should be visible under it. That's because Winchester was sometimes caught off guard, when the new, large order (usually from the police departments) came in. So, Winchester would simply pull a number of commercial models from the assembly line, cut the barrels down and re-stamped them with the "cyl" stamp to fill the order in short period of time. Police department didn't mind obviously.

Where did you find this information ?
 
I’ve got the 1910 Winchester No. 76 catalogue here that shows the Model 97.
Specs show a 20 inch rolled steel cylinder bored barrel bored expressly to shoot buckshot.
Lots of variations of the model 97 but no options listed for the riot gun.
Price in 1910 was 25.00 dollars for the riot version
A takedown pigeon grade listed for 100 dollars
And how about 1000 Hi brass Leader factory 12 gauge for 51.00 dollars?
