So this little fella followed me home on Saturday along with 103 original rounds of mixed Winchester and Remington 180gn soft point (with cupro-nickel jackets).
Made in 1922.
The good: no cracks in any of the wood and not refinished. Beautiful bore. Magazine present in in nice shape. Buffer not yet worn out.
The bad: finish isn't perfect, it definitely has faded blueing, scratches here and there, some spots that clearly once had minor surface rusk that came off without leaving pitting, but spotted the finish on places.
The ugly: Someone who didn't know how to disassemble it took pliers to the take-down screw - just ordered a replacement from Numrich, but they also made some deeper scratches n the lower around the screw head. Same person likely scratched their initials - JDR - (small, thankfully) into the front receiver boss along the wood line, you can see it in the pictures. It could all be fixed if I ever decide to re-blue the gun, and it's not too bad. Also, someone filed the buckhorn flat.
Overall though, a much nicer Winchester 1907SL in .351SL than you usually see.
I have a second mag en-route along with the new takedown screw. If anyone has an original milled buckhorn rear sight from this timeframe (pre-64) they would part with, let me know pls
I don't need the elevator, just the leaf.
Similarly, if anyone has a tang site for the 1905/1907/1910 winchester lying around - also let me know - would love to try one out.
Anyone else got one of these they are actually running? I'm hoping I'll be able to reload the brass and find a suitable 180gn soft point - likely I'll have to swage down .358" bullets from what I understand.
