So this little fella followed me home on Saturday along with 103 original rounds of mixed Winchester and Remington 180gn soft point (with cupro-nickel jackets).

Made in 1922.

The good: no cracks in any of the wood and not refinished. Beautiful bore. Magazine present in in nice shape. Buffer not yet worn out.

The bad: finish isn't perfect, it definitely has faded blueing, scratches here and there, some spots that clearly once had minor surface rusk that came off without leaving pitting, but spotted the finish on places.

The ugly: Someone who didn't know how to disassemble it took pliers to the take-down screw - just ordered a replacement from Numrich, but they also made some deeper scratches n the lower around the screw head. Same person likely scratched their initials - JDR - (small, thankfully) into the front receiver boss along the wood line, you can see it in the pictures. It could all be fixed if I ever decide to re-blue the gun, and it's not too bad. Also, someone filed the buckhorn flat.

Overall though, a much nicer Winchester 1907SL in .351SL than you usually see.

I have a second mag en-route along with the new takedown screw. If anyone has an original milled buckhorn rear sight from this timeframe (pre-64) they would part with, let me know pls :) I don't need the elevator, just the leaf.

Similarly, if anyone has a tang site for the 1905/1907/1910 winchester lying around - also let me know - would love to try one out.

Anyone else got one of these they are actually running? I'm hoping I'll be able to reload the brass and find a suitable 180gn soft point - likely I'll have to swage down .358" bullets from what I understand.

I'm jealous, really like the WSL's.

There are lots of .355 bullets out now thanks to the 350 Legend, less swaging.

Has anyone slugged the bore on one of these?

the Xreloads are FMJ, no?

In any event, I just grabbed 200 bullets and a set of dies. Off to the races...

I believe well known member Andy did a thread on these ages ago and IIRC, IMR4227 was the powder. Maybe search the reloading sub forum.

Most loads I see are 4227, alliant 2400, or H110.

I need to shoot some original rounds over the chrome to get a baseline and free up the brass for loading.

I've been interested in this platform for a while. More interested in the 1910s than the 1907s, but both are cool. Not a lot of straight blowback centerfire guns out there (for obvious reasons of course).

I had a chance to pick up a 1910 last year... but I missed it.
Had already spent my 'milk money'...
Now if ya do find one the price is way up there.

I see these come up locally at a rate of one 1905/7/10 about every 2 years. It’s best to buy these in person, in my experience.

What sort of things would one look for to determine if its a "good" one if looking in person? Anything specific to these guns, or just the usual stuff you'd look for with any gun? I'm pretty sure I saw one or two at the chilliwack gunshow a few months ago, but I was only in the market for lefty bolt actions that day.

Fore stocks crack easily. Hard to find one that isn't.

Ended up glassing the one I shot.

If you're serious on a buy, I'd ask to see it in TD form to have a look too.

Buffer washers wear out, kinda hard to tell without a teardown, not that easiest, but doable.
