Hello,
I have a 1917 (p17) 30-06 and when you push the trigger ahead the firing pin releases and will discharge the gun? I put another trigger in it but it does the same thing. Can someone educate me and tell me if this is how they are made or if its fixable so that the trigger only works when you squeeze it.

Thanks

Is it an after market trigger or an original military trigger or an altered original military trigger?

An original military trigger should work properly.
An altered military trigger may be the problem...
An after market trigger set too light may be the problem...

Triggers are meant to be 'pulled' backwards.. a possible solution to firing would be to not push it ahead.

A military Mauser will do the same thing, IF IT IS OUT OF THE STOCK. These rifles all had a trigger guard that blocks the trigger from being pushed forward. Many custom bottom metal had a small pin or bar in the trigger slot to accomplish the same thing - by removing the rifle action from the stock, that feature is defeated. Look at the military design - pushing forward makes the trigger pivot on its front tip which works to lower the sear, same as pulling trigger rearward, except it then pivots on its "humps".

Good to know..........I understand a Springfield 1903 trigger was sometimes substituted on the P17-14 rifles after the magazine was altered/cut to make it sit flat during sportering.Harold

I just looked at the P14 i have here and its trigger guard blocks it fro moving ahead as Potashminer stated. There is absolutely no forward movement as its own spring already has it tight forward.
