Hello all

i just inherited a exc. condition Winchester 2200 from my brother who has given up hunting a while back back. He is original owner which puts this one in the late 1970's vintage. Looks like a 30" full choke barrel.

Will this gun safely handle steel shot?

My first shotgun was a Winchester 2200 pump action in 3'' Magnum.
Lasted not even one season as the two spot welds of the action bars came undone.
Traded it in to the guy from Sunbury Cedar Sales for a Remington Sportsman a cheaper version of he Wing Master.
Essentially , Bill J's load was a Magnum round in a 3-3/4 hull using number 4 lead and about 32grn of Win 571 powder.
The gun was light enough to carry all day, mine just didnt last nor am I suggesting yours will break.
Just relaying my experience.

The 2200 was built on the same platform as the 1200, 120. Which became the 1300 and then the 1300 Speed Pump and now the exterior re-designed SXP.

They are great guns I sold the 28" Vent rib with Tubes 2200 that I had as it was a 2 3/4" only version. Also had a 1300 20g upland deluxe that I sold to a member here and wanted to buy back but his brother had commandeered it lol.

I have 3 Winchester 1300's in my cabinet. 1 wears a 28" win choke barrel (actually has gorgeous 2200 checkered stocks on it), 2 wear 21" Turkey barrels (both black synthetic) and also have a 22" Rifled slug barrel.

Mine have never failed me but they are hunting guns not high volume trap or skeet guns.

It is very easy to pull off the fore end tube and check the spot welds on the action bars.
