Just picked up a couple hundred rounds of .223 Winchester white box ammo NEW, -
and upon inspection I noticed that most of the brass is noticeably scratched, dented and what looks like ejection marks?
Some are minor, some are more noticeable. I reload and this brass looks exactly like once or twice fired.
Definitely not new... anyone else noticed this?

Are you sure of your source; that this is new ammunition in sealed packaging?

I'm beginning to wonder, but yes it was purchased at a reputable store. Unless someone on payroll is reloading and repackaging, but that would be a serious offense to be sure.

I would return it for exchange. I know most places wont want to, but if they value their customers they will listen. Maybe you're not the only one who complained... Especially at $10+ for a box of 20, you better damn well be getting good brass!

Bought several hundred rounds of .223 WWB and all the brass was perfect with no defects of anykind that I saw.

I would also take it back.

canadian tire, walmart and TSC all have winchester .223 ammo now where I live.

None had it about 6 months ago. I complained to the store manager at walmart and canadian tire and they got it. They have 220 swift and .222 but they cant carry .223???

It sounds like your ammo was loaded in a magazine and then extracted manualy. This may have happened when someone at the store (or customer bought and returned it)was checking for mag capacity or extraction function. Is this on every round in every box? In the end I don't think it will have much effect on operation. Phil.

over the last month i have bought 1000 round from WS in calgary and i thought it was just me....but i checked every box and they have dents and the necks are rough and scratched...could wincester be actually shipping out once fired ammo????
since all ammo sales are final i wonder what to do as i do reload

i just got off the phone with WS and this is the 1st they've heard of this. the guy i talked to is a good buddy of mine and he is going to check there stock and will be talking to winchester about it. he also figures that since it's cheap ammo some of the fit and finish steps in production have been skipped. he said he will let me know what he finds out, and in return i will post his findings here
thanks

Thanks for getting the ball rolling Zeek. I thought I was just over-reacting about it but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that noticed. I did take them to the range and they all fired with no issues. My main concern was that they appear to be once fired brass sold as new. I would like to hear the response from your buddy at WS.

me too...since i'm sitting on a 1000 rounds of it with different lot numbers and it all seams to be the same issue. however i have shot some of this before and it shot fine. but i'm going to be reloading about a 100 rounds of the ones i already fired and i will shoot them again and through the reloading and the refiring of this brass i will let you know my findings
thanks
