Winchester 22lr Ammo blows up in gun

I have fired countless rounds of 555 and don’t recall having any trouble. Same with Federal bulk. I used to use a 10/22 for gopher shooting, maybe had a few that didn’t have the same snap to it, more noticeable in a semi. I use CZ 455’s and now a 457. The past. three days I have fired a pile of Herter’s, 555, Federal bulk, and Aguila Super Extra, all in a St. Patrick’s 455. Poor thing is getting rather dirty. Tomorrow I’ll crack out the 457.

While I have shot a few thousand rounds of Winchester Dynapoint, 333 and 555 through my inexpensive "plinking" guns,
I would never dream of shooting it out of my match rifles.
These only get RWS, ELEY, SK or Lapua match ammo. Never had a blowout like the OP, but always wear glasses for
safety. Dave.

wow, I cant believe how many failures people are having. this seems to be more than Random.
I dont feel like destroying the ejector in my rifle either.

I've only had One blow-out, likely from a dirty chamber - out of Thousands of rounds fired in several diff 22s. Just wear eye protection .

Haven't bought WW 333 packs in years, as they seemed to have all the inconsistencies mentioned in previous posts. Pip, pap, pop, pope, puck is what I recall it sounding like lol. Another thing I recall, was the bullet diameter. While I never measured the od of any bullets, 95? % would chamber fine in a bolt action, but the others would seat as if you had reloads that were jamming the lands, or only partial case sizing, where the the last little bit took much more effort to chamber. Obviously we don't reload 22 rimfire, but that was my exact experience. lone ranger, can you measure the bullet diameter on a few if you get bored? I'm curious if that's as inconsistent as the powder charges.

I have had 2 winchester rounds do the same thing, destroyed the ejectors on both

I find it hard to believe that a blown case head could destroy an ejector.
On the other hand, an extractor can be blown out of the rifle.

The only time I've ever had a blowout was with CIL ammo in a Cooey 60. That was about 50years ago.
Reading the post about Browning ammo being made by Winchester explains a lot. I wondered why it shot like s**t in my rifles.

I had a new CZ 455 in 17 HMR; Winchester ammo shot poorly, and after looking at the brass, a lot of them had split necks. Others have had this same issue with Winchester .17 HMR as well. Bad brass maybe?

I use Winchester Auto-match in my HS pistol and have no problems.

Never tried it, but other guys at our club who have, have reached the same conclusion.

I had exactly this happen to me about thirty years ago with Winchester 490 and CIL ammo.
One thing I believe myself is a huge contributing factor is a dirty rifle, dirty chamber.

When was the last time you cleaned your rifle?

Out of battery ignition can be caused by dirty firing pin stuck in the forward position.
