I have a Winchester 2400 that is badly in need of cleaning. I have downloaded the manual for the 1400 (which is supposed to be identical) but cannot remove either the forearm or the barrell. After I remove the valve cap, the forearm and the barrell are supposed to slide off. Unfortunately, they slde about 1/4 inch and stop as if they are contacting something.
Can anyone out there help?

Are you pulling the bolt back about 1/2 way before pulling the barrel foreward? If the bolt is foreward it locks into the barrel.

I just wrote in with the same problem. Mines #140 same as yours, but basic model. I unscrewed the cap and pulled like mad, no luck. Action was open as well.Opened up as you said 1/4 and thats it. Hit it with some wd-40 and let it sit. It came off with some extra pulling, but got it off and gave it some oil (not to much). Put it back together and tried it again and had the same problem even after the oil. I thought it was ceased but not a speck of rust on it. I never had this problem before but I have not taken it apart in years. When you get an answer let me know. Thanks
