Hi im about to start making ammo for my .270 win.I'm using IMR 4350,Magnum rifle primers and Hornady 150gr bullets.I was wondering if any of you guys have different loads that have worked for you any info would be awesome.
I loaded two different loads for my son last year, 130 TSX over 61 gr of H4831sc with a CCI magnum primer and 140 gr Accubond over 59.5 grains of same. I know, someone will say the magnum primer isn't necessary, but just about every good 270 load OI have come up with for both the rifles he used came with a magnum primer. BTW the tsx load chronied a 3075 and the 140 accubond just over 3000 fps and both were accurate.
hey darmil... what length barrel? what kind of rifle?
Anyway I have been round and round with all the popular .270 powders and settled on H-1000. Using a 150 Gr bullet, 59 grains of H1000 gives you a compressed load which is very consistent and accurate... about 2800-2850fps depending on your barrel length... and because it is a very slow burning powder it is extremely low recoil.
My favorite load is a 140 Gr Accubond with 63.2 grains of H-1000 Win brass and Federal Match large rifle primers.. 3000+ fps... Max load! So start lower... you know the drill.
In my 700 Bdl hunting rifle it liked most of the powders listed and shot most eveything under 1 1/2 MOA , However with H-4350 just shy of max it turned into a tack driver with 130 grain B-tips.
Using the 150gr bullets with 48.8 gr of H4350 with CCI200 primer, I get 2710 fps. I use Hornady 150SP for paper and 150gr Partition for hunting. Speed varies a little between these bullets.
