Winchester 270wsm problem

Most important: It's not going to take much to 'blow out' a X-bolt magazine if it has the plastic retention thumb clip, but regardless of that said there is wise advise in getting a gunsmith to check it over if you have one anyways close. Playing a fee of $125 to have them spend 45 minutes checking it would be better than finding out something is damaged you can't see or are not familiar with looking for.

Also, I wouldn't fire anything else out of that box unless that was the last round in the box. There is a chance you got "the last round or first round of the batch" but I wouldn't chance it myself: we can forget that the chamber and casing are containing a controlled hyper-burn/explosion which is inches from the face.

Lastly, any case I have ever had fail was only due to an old milsurp with bad chamber head space. The case crackled and blew-out just above the head of the casing where the casing reduces down to normal thickness to the neck. This seems to be a common place for a case to fail.

Just my opinion: those that know better than I will add soon.

Perhaps the brass had a defect that went undetected? I have not seen that kind of failure in my shooting but I have seen some sloppy stuff pass QC in factory ammo.
 
I can see the first pic, not the other. Definitely strange to me.....I would suggest defect in the brass. As above, I think it prudent to show the manufacturer quoting the batch number. Who knows, may help them identify a problem.
 
Buddy of mine bought some Winchester deer season factory 270wsm a year or two back. Some of the cases had severe defects. Vertical “folds” on the shoulder from the forming process. If memory serves a few necks cracked as well. Some of them wouldn’t even chamber. This is in a factory M70 rifle.
