looking to have my late mothers model 94 re blueed and have been told the receiver on 3000000-4000000 are a different metal and am told by lgs it will go purple if blued. This gun holds a lot of value to me anyone have any ideas solutions on how to tacle this. Oh yeah and I took my 1st deer with it as well

Probably manufactured in the late 60's. I think these receivers were plated or something because the finish used to flake off really bad. These 94's were a low spot quality wise for Winchester. I don't think bluing is the answer, maybe remove the finish and powder coat it or something similar. There are some new gun coatings out there now, someone may see this and reply.

after 1964 To save the Model 94 and restore a reasonable profit margin, Winchester redesigned the action for cheaper manufacture, substituting stamped sheet metal and roll pins for parts previously machined from forged steel

My thought was that the reason they used that finish, is that they couldn't blue it consistently themselves.
My own has a few chips, but it is a very late 1971 rifle, after they had upped the quality considerably. The finish is still good enough to be left alone on mine.

Someone told me that the post-64 94's had a cast steel receiver for the first several years and that is why it was coated with a black coating not blued. Don't know for sure but it's certainly not bluing.

Always lots of mystery surrounding model 94 receivers and the different processes used in manufacturing. Here is a decent article on 94 receivers:
