Hey guys, its time for me to join the Winchester 30/30 club... :p

I have no clue what to look for, the only thing I know is I should get myself a pre-64.

Im looking for help on finding one. Ive been searching ee and came across this one http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1136273-Pre-64-Win-94-in-32-Spl-(1953)-and-30-30-(1958)?highlight=winchester

What are your thoughts on it ?

Thanks

Go with the 30/30. The 32Special offers nothing over the 30/30 and is a lot harder to find.

Don't over look the older Marlins either. They are sometimes less expensive, easier to scope and have been in my experience more accurate then the 94s.

I have seen a grand total of maybe 5 boxes of 32 special ammo in the last 10 years on any dealer shelf. I personally would go for the 32 special, (but I reload) but there is tons of good factory ammo such as the lever evolution ammo out there that I haven't seen in 32 special. The 30-30 keeps getting more versatile, yet the 32 stays a niche caliber.

So do you want a 30-30 or 32sp? Or is it the action you're interested in?
Go 30-30. Such a fun round and levers just plain rock.
83 cents a round isnt a big deal either. Especially as a hunting round. I use mine for target, and just buy a box every payday. I always have piles of boxes on hand as a result.

My preference for the Winchester is a nice old SRC, I like the looks and front sights better. Don't think you can go wrong with one.

A pre safety marlin 336 is also a very nice choice.

Pre-64 M94 Carbine in .30/30... can't go wrong... older Marlin's are nice too... but an older Marlin isn't going to scratch that itch is it? And neither will a post-64, will it?

Go ahead.... scratch that itch...

Pmed the guy from the other thread, he hasn't Pmed me back... maybe he thought it would be worth more.... I did offer him 500$ shipped....

If your eyes are good and the finding/focussing on open sights isn't an issue, the Winchester
is easier to play with.
I gave mine up (not all) in lieu of the 336's for the ease of mounting a scope.
The extra weight and bulk is forgiven in the accuracy improvement.

Fruck, eye shure hope yew'all kuld understewd thet'thar gibberish hup abuv.

Everyone at work has been giving me a hard time, They're just getting started in the hobby and have 30/30's lol...

I won't lie I've always wanted a 30/30, but there's always a new gun that comes up, and puts the 30/30 on the back burner.

So Today was payday and I need to buy a 30/30. lol....

Do yourself a favor and grab a decent condition marlin. I have a '76 336 in 30-30 and I am glad I got it over the winchester. Its nice and tight, no rattles and shoots like a champ. Easy to scope and side eject port is NICE.

I started with a 8 gun cabinet 3 years ago, Now my 16 safe is full, and I'm waiting on the 36 to come on sale at crappy tire.... I have a serious problem.... lol....

I feel ya bro, I've got two 10 gun cabinets, (which really only hold 8 lol) and they're almost full as well.

I would go with the Marlin 336 over a Winchester any day for all the reasons already listed plus the fact it is far easier to tear down for a proper cleaning. And they shoulder much nicer.

At least with the 36 I can get rid of my other 3 I have now, And help pay for it as a bonus... lol...

Keep dreaming.

Personally I can't stand the carbine, hence why I haven't gotten one yet. I much prefer the look of the rifle over that of the carbine. unfortunately there are about 500 carbines for every rifle on the market.
