Winchester 30/30

Ok guys, I know the 32 special is harder to find then 30/30 ammo. But this rifle would only be used for hunting, So once I find a couple boxes I would be set.

Its a pre-64 and the guy want 450$ for it. what do you guys think ? Should I just keep looking for a 30-30 ?

If your eyes are good and the finding/focussing on open sights isn't an issue, the Winchester
is easier to play with.
I gave mine up (not all) in lieu of the 336's for the ease of mounting a scope.
The extra weight and bulk is forgiven in the accuracy improvement.

Fruck, eye shure hope yew'all kuld understewd thet'thar gibberish hup abuv.

Coming from you that's a rarity..... are you not well ??

I'd certainly go for it, my pre-64 Model 64 shoots very well and the 32 Spl. is an excellent cartridge.
My Dear Wife likes her 30-30, but I personally prefer the 32 Spl, components are not hard to find usually a fair assortment at gun shows.
That rifle you posted the pictures of looks to be fairly decent..

Yah finelly fownd it aye?
Dipp'in a wee bit maybee?

Big boy britches shoot the .32win.
And I think Sir Dilliegaffer that that mite nawt bee such a bad deal.
Sqweeeeeeeeeze'im a bit and see'if'n he'll fold a wee bit.

Lewkylike it's miss'n an eyebawl, so twist da wrist summawr.

Be patient and find the gun you really want in the calibre that's best for what your doing with it . I'd probably chose the 30/30 only because I know it's a good hunting round , everybody carries it ( almost as plentiful as 308 maybe more ? ) and to be truthful I don't know enough about the 32.

Looks like a typical rifle that has been carried a lot, and had a coat of varnish thrown onto the stocks. $450 isn't a bargain.

If you ever think you would want a scope, get a Marlin or one of the newer angle eject Winchesters.

The .32 special is pretty much interchangeable with the .30/30 as far as performance goes but the .30 is much easier to feed than the .32 nowadays. They originally designed the .32 Winchester Smokeless(.32 special) as a round that was sold as smokeless powder loading and could be reloaded with black powder(weren't really sure this new fangled smokeless would pan out). The .32 had a 1in16 twist rifling versus a 1in12 twist for the .30/30 to reduce fouling, larger bore and lots of .32 cal. bullets molds etc. were on the market owing to the success of the .32/40. There really is no difference between the two in effectiveness on game that I have seen, I've shot deer with both. My grandfather was convinced his .32 special hit harder up close but the .30/30 "carried out" better at longer range. Years ago older guys would almost come to blows arguing about which was better at our camp which is pretty funny.

I would agree.....that rifle appears to have some wear and tear on it....in this area , it would not be considered a good deal . As others have stated , if you plan on using a scope.....go with a Marlin . As far as 32 ammo , all the Canadian Tires around here stock it....no selection in brand , but it is always on the shelve in Winchester....

Better yet, get a Mossberg 464. Very accurate, side eject lever gun with easy scope mounting, though the trigger is a tad stiff outta the box. These are only in .30-30 at present and usually well under $500.oo. For the money you get a well made rifle.:)

Nothin' like a nicely worn old '94 to carry and shoot in either 30-30 or .32 Special. I just weakened and bought a 94 rifle in 38-55. I've used a .32 carbine for the last few years whitetail hunting. Many years back, I used my Canadian Centennial carbine in 30-30 for whitetail.

It's not as though the world will come to an end if you buy a 94 and you don't like it. :p
