Probably wouldn't work, because they didn't use that to kill several million bison... kidding - an ounce of lead through pretty much anything will kill it deader than Hillary's chances in 2020...

A trapdoor load.
Well, trapdoor rifles decimated the American buffalo herds with very similar black powder ammo and you’re talking animals that tip the scales at almost a ton so that speaks to the effectiveness of slow heavy bullets a lot louder than words.
I push my 405 grain Woodleigh Weldcore bullets to about 1850 fps and my 405 grain hardcasts to 1650 fps.
Garrett bullets says the optimal penetration velocity is about 1600 fps and they should know.

I’ve taken deer & moose with the green box 405 grain core-lokts which exit the muzzle about 1300 fps.
