Hi, I'm starting to look around for a "classic" target grade 22. I'm getting back into the shooting sport and would like to try some of the classics. I have a 1950 Brno model 1 and a 1983 model 2E. These are great shooters and it leads me to look for others. At local gun show I came across a Schultz and Larsen model 70,
but at $450 it seemed high and then a Win 52c and for this they were asking $1450. (Lyman 77h front sight and Redfield International Match globe rear sight) Both of these rifles were very good condition with excellent bores. I passed on these but now I pose the question what were they worth ( price and quality) and what would other great shooting rifles be and what are fair values. I appreciate this is a broad topic but what beter spot would there be to ask this question?

I must also say that I have a Cooey 75 sitting in my shop here on the farm and and that old baby will give me a inch plus circle at 50 paces all day long. Now that is Classic.

The Win 52s are excellent rifles. One would be hard pressed to find a rifle of their vintage that would be better. Others that you may want to look for are Remington 37 & 40x, Finnish Lion, Anschutz 1400-1600 series, Walther KK series, Feinwerkbau, and former Soviet Typhoon and Ural rifles. Until the mid 80s at one time or another all of the mentioned rifles have been used in world class competition. The Winchesters have become sought after by collectors because things Winchester have collectibility. Something the other brands have less of. Although Remingtons are fairly uncommon and pricey.

Check the American auction sites like Guns america , or Gun Broker and see what they are going for. Collectable Win 52's are about the same price in Canada as they are in the uSA. FS

You could also look at Mossberg 144 LSB. They were also an accurate target rifle in their day. One currently on EE for sale.(Not mine)

Hi,
Can anyone tell me about the Schultz and Larsen model 70 target rifle and a CND value?

Tradeex has a few of them for under $300.00. I bought one this summer from them. I think I paid $265.00 and it's a pretty nice rifle for the money. The one you saw at the show for $450.00 was priced too high in my opinion unless it was next to mint. Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come from tradeex.

A veteran shooter turne,d up at CRPC a couple of years ago with a mint Winchester 52 international free rifle that he wanted $3000 for, don't know if he got it. It was in the original packaging and absolutely gorgeous- seems it was his backup at the time.

got to the tradex website - they are CGN sponsors and have a 'sign' at the top of the page[/QUOTE

I just noticed the original poster's last question regarding value for a Schultz & Larsen was from 1 1/2 years ago. Just curious as to why out of the blue you would dig up a thread that old and reply now?

uhhh, you know, lack of attention to details like dates and stuff, i guess. i have done this many times and you are the first to catch it. so no reason other than inattention, and i also am a kinda really big fan of the S&L M70- and my tongue always seems to engage before brain. sorry about that
cheers and good shooting to ya!

Thanks jsdboy, I had lost track of this post and it is interesting to see the replies restartingh. The S&L m70 may well have come from Tradex as the seller works a lot of shows here in Mb and Sk. They are a husband and wife team and always have something interesting on the tables. They seem reputable, but not the best deals. As far as the 52 went I ended calling the seller back he sold for 1200. Not a "deal" but a beautiful, very dark wooded example, all original with only minor wear. I thought this was good since the rile is as old as I am and I show a lot more wear with even a few bits knocked off. If I get off my duff and learn to post pics I will show you all. Because as we all know nothing is for real till the picture posts. Thanks again
