so I inherited a Winchester 69a 22lr bolt action rifle, and by the looks of it its NEVER been cleaned before in its life. The bolt action is very sticky/gritty feeling and there is crude in the barrel when looking down it. I would like to fully disassemble it and give it a full detailing and cleaning and oil. I've done some searches on google and you tube and haven't found anything for the bolt.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has links to videos/pics to show and explain how it comes apart.

Thanks, BrownR

So I have majority of the bolt assembly taken apart, I just can’t figure out how to remove the extractors ??

Check out how bad this was inside and how sticky it was from gunk/rust

I thought so as well, but I don’t have a punch that small, can I se a small nail that has been flattened out to be used as punch ? Or what can I use to pop them buggers out ? The other pins I had to pop out were VERY tight and took some good hefty smacks

Did you try to look how to do it on youtube ? plus find a punch . good luck .

Of coarse I did, but I didn’t have any luck with a bolt assembly video in my searches, didn’t think they made punches that tiny. It’s about the size of a toothpick end lol

Oh woot woot found my 1/16th !! Gonna see if it will get them out lol fingers crossed hehe

EDIT - shoot my 1/16th is still too big to fit in the hole to pound it out

A good set of steel and brass punches are a must.

The 1/16 steel punch I've had forever broke from frustration and lack of patience.
Just pushing the punch past it's capability.
Not giving up I found an old screw driver for glasses.

Pulled the screw driver bit out and replaced it with a 1/16 drill bit that I modified. (Edit: or whatever size drill bit will fit the roll pin)
Worked great till I had a chance to replace the punch.

(Oh and heating the part a bit works wonders too!!!
Love taps don't work, one good wack to break it free is best)

Post up when you get it apart.

You are not thinking right, the punch don't go in the hole, it is a hollow roll pin. look again.
If the extractor still has spring pressure when you pull it out, just spray some cleaner in it and leave it along.
If the pins are really rusted in, then even with a proper punch, you will bugger the pins and have to hunt up new ones.
A soft nail will likely just bend. , Drill bits can shatter , thou cheap Chinese crap will bend.

Use a bronze bore brush and some G96 or WD40 in a slow speed drill will clean up that rust in the bore good.
don't lube with WD40

You don't need a roll pin punch, but you have to have the proper size of punch. Buy real good ones , poor ones wreck guns, and other stuff

Well they are not roll pins in this bolt assembly, all of the pins are regular solid pins. I was able to get it in my vise and tape with a 5/64th drill bit (good hardened bit) the pins just came out no sweat. Lots of cleaning to get nice and clean again tho.

I’ll post some pics of the bolt assembly when I have it complete finished and oiled up

Looks not to bad, just surface rust, mainly crud ? springs look good.
I was thinking they where roll pins in this, but it has been 20 yrs since I had one.
It has the peep sight on it?

Well bolt assembly is all back together likely the hardest part was trying to get the small pins in while holding the extractors and springs in lol so I decided forget this and shoved it in my vise. Then wiggled the end of the extractors around and the pins dropped in far enough they caught them. Smacked em it and bingo bango bongo !!! :)))

Now I’m just going through the rest of the gun, barrel and trigger and magazine feed mechanism. I did notice the stock has a small crack in it though :( so I’m not sure if I should fix it or replace the stock totally or just leave it and sell it. Reason I’m thinking of selling this is cuz I have 4 22s already and one is a newish bolt action (125rnds down the tube)
