winchester 7mm WSM model70 featherweight stainless classic

I just bought this model70 rifle a few weeks ago, I've shot the rifle a few times at 100yds and the best 3 shot group was 1 1/2" and the average was about 2 3/4".I think the gun is capable of doing alot better then that! I was shooting win 150gr power point and the 160gr accubond.
What are you guys getting for groups with the model70 and any advice on
how to improve the accuracy ?

take the rifle to a gunsmith and have him glass bed the action and adjust the trigger. have him check the crown of the barrel too, make sure it's not damaged.

handloads should shoot better too, but if you dont reload or dont know anyone who does, try shooting more premium ammo, like the Winchester Supreme Accubond or Federal Premium ammo.

Assuming you are excersizing good cleaning practices and fire slowly your rifle should shoot around an inch if you can hold it and aren't fighting a very heavy trigger pull. An obvious problem like a damaged crown or uneven forend pressure on the barrel can be cured but you will have to have the rifle checked out first. These rifles are shooting very well for most people. I recently had two 270 WSM's go through my hands for bedding jobs and they both cut groups under an inch with Federal ammo. My own rifle shoots very well but I handload. The factory PP ammo shoots right around an inch.

I tryed power points 150 gr in my gun they shot about a 2" at 100yards I tryed winchester Premium 140 grs the did much better 1.00"
My gun I consider is a high quality made gun and some extra options your gun does not have. Its a Rem 700 with a premium grade Hart stainless 24" fluted barrel with a 1in9.5 twist, in a mcmillan stock glass bedded by hart rifle barrels who do excellent work, I added a tubbs firing pin, and a Jewll trigger set at 1 lb I put on a T6 weaver with 1/4" dot to test some hand loads, after trying many powders I found H4831s/c 67grs with 140gr nosler BT 3100fps where grouping the best got to

1.5" isn't to be sneezed at with a light barrel and factory ammo. Neither is a 2.75" average. However, if you haven't done the trigger, do it. Adjust it to 4 or 5 pounds. That's plenty light enough for a hunting rifle.
You could use the ammo that gave you the 1.5" group. Your rifle likes it. If you're not reloading, you'll have to try as many brands of ammo and bullet weight as you can to find the one or two that your rifle shoots best.
