Just picked up a new in the box model 92 in 44 mag with the tang safety. It's a special order one with the half mag and the octagon and round barrel. The bolt doesn't bring the hammer far enough back to #### it. Is it faulty or is this another safety feature to save us from ourselves? I can open the bolt and #### it.

Seconded.

If its an NIB firearm I would return it before taking ANY measures like disassembly etc. Let the warranty folks deal with it.

It cocks if you pull the hammer back farther with your thumb?

If it is brand new, I do not know how they are supposed to operate - like you said, might be a "new fangled" way to protect ourselves from something. At most, look in the owner's manual that came in the box - read how the maker said it was supposed to work - if it does not do what it says, when you do what it says, is definitely a warranty thing.

It's probably a warranty issue, but before you send it in, you might want to try aggressively cycling it a few hundred times. It might break in and function properly, saving you a whole lot of time and effort.

Boosting the hammer might also help, but I don't necessarily recommend it in this case.

I have a new Miroku 94 and it definitely doesn't behave like that. Something malfunctioning there. And I'm currently waiting on a 92 in .44mag so be sure I'll be checking it closely before it leaves the store.
