Winchester 94 30-30 serial number oddity?

Winchester started using that screw again on late production guns I believe, but it is a clue to a pre-'64. The receiver on that rifle has been ground down ahead of the link. Contour is wrong. I would speculate that the original serial number has been removed and a new one stamped.

The spacing and stamping is rather sloppy... the last digit is the worst...

That does look off , to say the least . It was restamped ( badly ) at some point .

take the stock off, may find the original number if it is original wood.

As a comparison - these numbers apparently date this one to 1955. Good amount of "carry wear", especially on underside of the receiver.
