Both my son-in-law and myself have Win 94's in 30-30.His made in 1966 and he just bought it and it's never been used and mine is 1965 with about 50 shells through her.We used them deer hunting this yr and both rifles do not and will not cycle these shells properly and end up jamming.We both tried Win and Rem shells and no probs feeding.
Anyone else have probs with the Hornady Leverevolution ammo ?.I did notice that the Hornady ammo has a slightly dif neck shape than the Win or Rem and slightly dif rim as well.
Thanks

I have not used them in a 30-30, but 2 guys at my camp do. They seem to cycle just fine. For what it's worth , I was concerned they wouldn't cycle in my ruger .44 semi, but they do just fine as well. Sorry to hear your having trouble, but guns can be picky about what they'll eat!

I have heard of others having trouble in the pre-64 94s. There are other threads on it I believe. My pre-64 (a 1952) had the same issues with Hornady Leverevolution ammo when I got it. I took it to a smith and I can't remember what he did but I think it was something to do with the extractor. It's been working flawlessly since then and that was almost two years ago. The Hornady 30.30 is really good stuff and has an edge over anything else I've tried so I didn't want to give up on it. It does look a little different (espeically from ammo from 50 years ago) which I'd guess is why some 94s need a tweaking.

I have a M94 Winchester 30-30 built in 1972.
I load the Leverevolution bullets in Winchester or Remington cases,
using 4895 powder.

This rifle cycles perfectly with these rounds, and shoots very well too.
No issues at all.

However, I have not tried any Hornady Factory ammo.

Eagleye.

Apparently when they first came out, Hornady advised that you may need to replace the follower spring, or perhaps just the follower, in the magazine tube. I don't know any more than that, as I have not had to reasearch it, because both of my model 94's cycle factory and reloads with no issues at all. Both the model 94's are post 64 though, so that may have something to do with it.

my 94 in 307 with ftx bullets wont feed the last round so I load a factory round first it works for me

Same problem on a post 64 model 94. Good thing I cycled them through the gun before I let my son hunt with it. And yes we did sight them in prior to the rifle hunt but we only loaded one shot at a time. Going to look at the follower spring or follower. I have 40 loaded and 60 left to load and I want to hunt with them.

It makes sense to be a follower issue, as the follower in a lot of '94's is fairly round at the end. That might allow a pointed bullet to sit at enough of an angle in the tube to be an issue. or, not allow it to be pushed out far enough on the lifter to allow it to raise. Me, I'll stick to Hornady Interlocks. They are just fine for all ranges I'm likely to fire my '94.

Quite sometime ago, I had skinner-t make up some followers for 94's in his machine shop. I haven't seen him around for quite a while, but if you search him and find him, he knows all about them and the price was certainly right!
