winchester 94 classic, value?

you can wash the bore snake you know, it's just fabric like a dish cloth. Also for 15$ you could replace it twice a year and not even think about it. Just my limited opinion on the matter i havnt done much looking into it yet! I also have a standard rod and pad cleaning kit I can use from my dad.
If you feel comfortable using then,by all means do so. I would doubt washing it would get metal or brass and such out of it.Read up on the boresnake and you will see a lot of negative feedback.Believe me,i hate cleaning guns but there is no substitute for a little elbow grease.

That's a nice Classic you got & the price ya paid seems about right...Good score.
Please toss the bore snake though, and go for the traditional, one patch at a time
method of cleaning with a proper, coated rod and muzzle guard/guide.

Loop a short piece of leather lace through the saddle ring.
Might stop the ring from wearing off the new.
Plus it looks sort of neat.....

Is the lifter (inside - the part that lifts the shell up to the chamber) pressed steel? If it is that will give a problem down the road. They discontinued the bent steel lifters (introduced in 1965) within a few years I think...Winchester made the worst model 94's they ever made from 1965 to 1970.

Post 64 Winchesters of that era had plated receivers not blued and explains the finish colour differences. The internet is full of information about the differences between pre and post 64s. Changes were made as the years passed after 64. I bought a 1971 94 an it had a stamped loading ramp. I replaced it with a milled version which came out out later that year or the next. Winchester seemed to be responding to complaints to return to the quality of pre 64s. My second purchase was my 1971 94. I have since added a 1949 94 and a 1987 94AE. The AE models returned to blued receivers and can accept a traditional scope mount. All in all they are beautiful guns and as a kid I admired them in old westerns. Had to have at least one of my own. I also own Browning and Marlin levers as well. Lets just say I'm a lever fan. Enjoy your purchase.
