Bought a post '64 as parts due to broken reciever tang and figured nothing to loose, may as well try welding it up. Mig welder didn't take due to cast reciever. So I rebeveled everything and took the stick to it. Very carefully with arctec unichrome I was able to weld it and it's survived a trip to the gravel pit for a box of shells. I am going to build up the edges with the mig to get back the sharp corners. Just wondering if anyone else here has had any luck with a broken tang and what method was used.

I have repaired them by silver brazing a plate underneath. The silver braze also fills the crack.

I've welded them, but I use a plasma welder, somewhat similar to tig welding. I think mig would be a real challenge. Really tig or an equivalent is probably best.
