There is a project coming this way shortly and there is a bit of a story to it.
Long in fact.
It was horse broke and I offered to help gett'er back in business.
The rear upper tang has been cracked in the normal horse abuse fashion and
welded back up..........twice ......... I think.
There is a replacement stock set for it and a few years back found an earlier
six digit serial number skint out receiver for it.
I'm not sure what problems I will face swapping the barrel over to the replacement
receiver.
The serial number on this replacement receiver puts it in the time frame that the
history of serial numbers was lost in a fire?
It dates in the 1906 era of time.
So my need for info would be, has anyone taken a receiver and swapped out a barrel
in this regard?
I presume that the adopted receiver may be a 30-30 verses the 25-35 barrel I wish to
swap over including the internal workings.
What problems other than head spacing would be encountered?
The saddle ring port is missing on this receiver as well.
Or should one just fit the wood to the existing rifle and be content with the so-so
tang weld?
There is no collector value here other than it's a one home rifle......pah bought it new
and has been handed down to his sons.
Oh look, no lewkaneeze......................
