A post 64 in 44-40......when the action is worked, rather than the cartridge lining up to the chamber, it jumps up and ends up pointing straight up. Rim of the brass is still below the cartridge guide. Whats going on?

In a word...Winchester. A very common trait of these guns, both mod 92's & 94's. The speed at which you work the action, the ammo length, bullet weight can all make these guns react in the way you describe.
I would have to disagree with this post, I have more than a dozen original 92s which all feed 100%. The post 64 variants however are a different critter, as are all the 92 copies except the Miroku which functions flawlessly (I have one in 44Mag)
OP.........Your problem could be any number of things, but likely is a bent cartridge lifter, or worn or bent magazine cartridge stop. I have a pre 64 mod 94 in 44-40 which works 100%.........very rare rifle.
Incorrect cartridge guides? I've had no experience with pistol cartridge calibers in 94's but "enough" work done on the 1894 and 94 rifle calibers 38-55, 32-40, 30-30 and 25-35 to appreciate each caliber need the proper guides to function properly... and likewise the same goes for Win 92 difference between the two "families" 25-20/32-20 vs 44-40/38-40.

For the most part we are both right. LOL I guess I will qualify my post and be more to the point than just a general statement.
I have three 94's and a couple 92's, all will work with the cartridges they were designed for, especially the 94's with the long rifle cartridges, namely 30-30, 32 sp, 38-55. I have owned two 94's with pistol cal. chamberings that neither would fire a whole match without jamming/stovepipeing at least once. I have timer op/RO'd for many, many dozens of other shooters and watched them experience the same problems. Would I carry a 94 as a saddle/camp gun, yes if in a rifle caliber,... in a pistol caliber , not a chance.
I also have two 92's, both very early production guns, 32-20, both will feed flawlessly with 115 gr bullets or at a "not accelerated " operated speed. Change to 92 gr bullets or speed up the action to not even be close to a "panic, SHF type thing", they will stovepipe every time.
