I have little experience with the win 94ae and have a question about the action. How tight is normal for the win 94? On this particular rifle, I can push the locking bolt from above and the lever falls quite easily. In the closed bolt position (hammer up or down), if I give the rifle a shake, the lever falls. Is this normal or should it be tighter? The only other win 94 I had was a pre64 and I don't remember this. How does one go tightening this up? I've checked friction stud and all seems ok.

if that lever will open with the shake from the "hammer down position as you say, that 94 has some serious problems, must not have a main spring to hold the hammer up otherwise no way it can open from a mere shake.
Forgot to mention, mine has the rebounding hammer and the lever will drop until the bolt hits the hammer. Hammer itself is good. Rifle is accurate, loads and shoots the way it suppose to. Just not sure about the loose lever.

There should be a spring and plunger on the back of the link, if they are frozen, missing or otherwise compromised your lever wont stay locked up. David.
