Anyone own one or know how they are in the 450 Marlin? I'm thinking of one or a Marlin guide gun haven't made the old mind up yet any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I talked to one guy who had one (they haven't been out that long) and he loved it, but i think it's generally accepted that the marlin is probably a 'tougher' gun all around.

I like the look and feel of the timber - i played with one in 444 a little at the store, and it is nice and compact.

With the new 'leverevolution' bullets from hornady (spire points that work safely in a tube mag) both the 45-70 and the 450 suddenly pick up a lot of extra range. Should be some pretty exciting performance from them. Just makes it even more desirable to pick up one of those 'old time' lever designs :)

Yeah Foxer... I just read the piece in Petersons about the new Hornady Leverevolution Bullets... One of my buds had a chance to try them out at the writers conference too. He says that the 30/30 is now .308 capable... and the 45/70 is a 300 yard rifle using these new hornady bullets!
I might have to buy a canopener rifle... gonna be a Marlin though....:)

If I was to do it over again, personally I would go with the Timber. Its about a pound lighter than the guide gun, and I like the lines better personally.
I have the XS's on my 356 win (basically the same as he timber but with an Unported 20 inch barrel) and love em.
Besides handling them, I havent shot a 450 Timber yet, (a 444 timber carbine though) but I prefer winchester Levers over Marlin levers.
Just a personal preference.
