Winchester 94 vs Henry big boy

Winchester for sure or the old Marlin before the forehand got fat, that is the worst thing they did, getting that forehand as thick as it is now, the old one were so much better…. IMO anyway

I like used guns, and the 94s can be had for less on the used market.

For me the big thing that stands out is straight grip vs not when talking Winchester vs most other common 30-30 lever actions.

And weight. The Win beats Henry and Marlin in that category I think?

On the subject of weight, on average a Win94 is likely to be lighter than an equivalent Marlin or Henry. Of course there are lots of variables but just on the metal side, Win94s (TE or AE) just have less of it. The major variable is the wood. Most Win94s have simple, slim solid woods. Marlins and Henrys have come in everything from chunky shaped hardwoods to heavier laminates (sometimes thickly coated, eg Dark series). More material, fatter profiles, etc.

Of course it is also possible to change out the furniture pieces for lighter options (include as some would refer as the ultimate sacrilegious act) such as polymer and aluminium pieces. I have a Win94 setup as a light weight pack rifle, so it does have a simple modified polymer stock which reduced the weight significantly. I also have a Marlin that basically had the entire RPP catalogue thrown at it (including the original polymer buttstock and aluminium handguard) and XS sights+rail that all came in lighter than the original solid wood stocks.

Neither of these two are pretty pieces, just care-free functional tools that are lighter relative to how them came from factory.

I wasn’t referring to weight, but to the fat forehand on the Marlin that I hate.
