Winchester 94

I agree with Savagefan, if you are going to start spending money on sights you might as well get a peep on there and a nice brass bead or fiber optic up front....

I can see where one would like a peep site for making precision long distance shots, but really most of the shots I have encountered where I hunt are inside of 100 yards I am sure that the old Buckhorn rear sight is more than capable of making consistent shots at that distance besides it is twice the price for a Williams sight at $82.95.

100 yards and under is pretty typical hunting range and yes the buckhorn's will get the job done.
I actually like buckhorns, but I find peeps tighten my groups at all ranges including 100yards and closer.

Thanks Can-down I am actually in contact with Bashaw Sports right now as they are listed on Winchester's Web Site as an authorized repair center. Hopefully they will contact me tomorrow. Works out well as I hunt about 10 miles south of Bashaw anyways, it will give me an excuse to go shed hunting and maybe shoot a coyote or two.;)

It is your gun to put whatever sights you want on but a peep sight with the proper aperture outperforms buckhorn sights at ALL RANGES. Plus it is faster to use on a quick shot and better in low light. The most common cause of misses on fast shooting at woods ranges with open sights is shooting high with buckhorn sights due to not getting that bead down into the sight notch far enough. It is impossible to shoot high with a peep unless you have your eyes closed as your eye automatically centers the bead in the aperture. Throw a peep mounted rifle to your shoulder and try to hold it so the bead is off center in the aperture. You really have to work at it.
 
I put a Williams receiver sight on a 1956 Winchester 94 30-30 a non shooting buddy gave me and I found I got groups at 100 yards that rivaled my scoped rifles.
 
Basher, if you haven't already located one, PM me your address and I'll send you one. I was just looking in the parts cabinet and found 3 old '94 rear sights.
As long as your eyes are still young, open sights work fine for woods hunting.
