Hi guys, I would like to have your opinion. I am presently in the process of upgrading my POL to PAL and am expecting my permit in the weeks to come.

I am interested in buying a nice little lever action .22 and would like to know what would be best between a Winchester 9422 or a Henry H001 ??

any information would be appreciated.

I know Winchester are out of production, and I would have to go for a used one. If I go that way, how much $$ shall I expect to pay ??

well even though i don't own an henry i can still vouch for the 94 i think you can still get them if you call around alot but expect to pay at least $550 now. i was in t'nt gun works in regina and they had one there for around $600 nice gun. my uncle has a 94 and ive shot it more than him i'ed say best 22 ive ever shot. henry is cheaper and with guns that means you get what you pay for. iam sure either would be a good gun happy hunting. but ied go for the 94
 
A 9422 would be my first choice. A number of folks here speak highly of the Henry, I have limited experience with them. Mechanically they are very different compared to the Winchester. You should also consider a Marlin 39 if one were to turn up. There is a Norinco clone of the Winchester. As is common for a Norinco clone, it looks similar, but in detail is on the rough side.
 
Indeed, consider a Marlin 39A as well. The takedown feature is really handy and makes it a snap to disassemble the action for cleaning.

There is a dealer in Bradford Ontario that has four older ones NIB and if I remember correctly, he is around the $600/$625 mark.
Great guns.

I actually just bought a 1987 NIB Browning A-bolt 22 from him.
 
I own both the win. and the henry. The Henry is allot more accurate and a little smoother out of the box, BUT the winchester is allot more robust. I shot a friends Marlin and now I think I'll replace both with one marlin to do it all. Does anybody know if they make the marlin in stainless.
 
I have a 9422 and love it!!! I have heard good things about the Henry but have never been around one. Marlin makes a beautiful lever regardless of caliber, but ya gotta love those winny levers!!! Mines never let me down...shoots well too. Scott
 
On the Henry web site They say the barrel and the lever are blued, what about the receiver?? Is it steel ? Blued or painted ? or anodized aluminum maybe?

If anyone can tell me please let me know

No stainless available on the Marlin. You can get it any way you want as long as you like .22LR, walnut and blued steel with checkered pistol grip and 24" barrel. In the past you could get the Mountie style as a 20" straight stock carbine. I've really grown attached to that Marlin. Its one of those guns where in a few years you can find that you own a closet full! Got my Williams FP receiver sight for it today. (scope = yuck!)

The Henry has an aluminum alloy receiver. The cheapest .22LR model have plastic sights. (I think that's not true of the .22WMR)

The 9422 is a nice gun and with the heavier build, its also available as a .22WMR. I have a friend that has a matched pair. I've heard they even made a .17HMR for a short period though I've never seen one.
