My Winchester '94 was working fine so I took it apart to make it not work anymore. I know, I know, I'm an idiot. I watched a video of disassembly then went for it. I took the wrong screw out of the left side which let the cartridge guide fall out, I'm not sure if I got it back in correctly but now it doesn't lift the cartridge when I cycle the action. I'm using the same weight of bullet with no primer or powder to check function. Is it possible to get the guide back in wrong?

You need a gunsmith...... I am being completely serious......

The alternative, is you can be stubborn and learn the action inside and out....... which is not a bad thing.... if you have the time....

A thread recently ran here about someone who had taken a 94 Winchester apart and couldn't get it back together. In a relatively short thread, there were at least 8 respondents who reported the same thing! Also, we know how many guns arrive at gunsmiths as pieces in a box.
In short, there are a lot of people out there that take guns apart, then can't get them back together again.
Maybe the oldtimers were on to something, when they almost never took a gun apart to clean it.

Yup, I learned from them Old timers myself.
I learned the very first time I tried something like that.
I fixed it till it was broke...then it cost me lots more and them some beers on top of that too.
Fix it till its broke and the Gunsmith guys are happy.

Go back to you tube and watch the video again ..
Then watch it again .. then follow along step by step till you gets it right.
That or call Gun Tech or Barry Jensen or any other guy closer to you.

It's actually not that hard once you know the sequence and a few tips. Youtube is your friend. Make sure the shell lifter isn't bent. It's easy to bend then nothing will work.

I agree with skidderman - it's not that difficult, just a bit fiddly. I found the hardest part to be screwing the loading gate back in place. Persist carefully and all will be well.
