Wondering if anybody here has a 264 winmag with a winchester action. My question is, can you reload the long VLD style bullets >140gn, come close to the lands (within .020") and still fit in the factory magazine box (3.4")

I am considering reloading for a newly acquired winchester but am worried that I will be seating VLD bullets much to far into the case to get the velocity that I want >3000fps.

The whyatts magazine box extension can be easily had but would need to mill the action out to install, has anybody done this mod to their Model 70. I should specify that this is a rare left hand model 70 so I really don't want to screw it up.

Thanks,
Evan

Evan, I load the 140 SBT Sierra bullet in my M70 and I am just off the lands,
it fits nicely in the mag box but my rifle is the older pre64 model, I don't know
if the newer rifles have a similar throat.
If you start playing with the VLD bullets by Berger or Nosler you will probably
find out that you will not be able to get close to the rifling and fit in the mag box,
quite normal with all these VLD's, there is no guarantee that the Wyatt conversion will get you
what you need either, I wouldn't modify my rifle without trying the load first in my rifle
with the max length available, it might work just right. And yes the lefty M70's are hard to come by!
