Winchester Alaskan vs ParkerHale

I was recently looking online and stumbled upon this Winchester Alaskan in 30-06. They are supposedly the pre-64 CF action. I already have a beautiful Parker Hale safari with very few rounds through the pipe and am wondering weather I would be throwing money away with the Winny versus what I already have. The Winny has the floorplate vs the PH mags. Any thoughts?

Winchester Alaskan is a marketing term for a Win M70 with iron sights(not many factory rifles with 'em any more) and the pre-64 style controlled feed. Isn't a pre-64 action. If parts ever become an issue, you'll find 'em for a Win 70, but not for a PH anything. PH has been gone for eons.
"...wondering weather..." I wonder about the weather too. Usually whether or not I should stay home.

Parker Hale may be gone but the PH Safari is built on a Mauser 98 action, of which there are many more in the world than the new FN built Win 70 action (different in some aspects from previous models 70's, for instance the triggers are not interchangeable). I would argue that parts are both cheaper and easier to find for the PH, and will continue to be so.

If you shoot the Parker Hale well I don't see any advantage in getting rid of it.
 
Not much to add to this. As mentioned both are high quality rifles built on proven designs. The only thing I can think of that would be a deal breaker for me is the detachable mag on the Parker Hale. I really don't like detachable mags on any of my hunting rifles and from what I've seen the PH ones are not the best quality or the best feeding. For that reason, I would chose the Win M70. You're opinion of detachable mags may differ.
 
Actually, mine is the same. Never had an issue with any of the Parkers I owned (can't be said for other magazine models I have had over the years) whatsoever. Just don't want to spend $1,300 for a floorplate assembly, as my PH is near pristine. Thanks for comments guys. Had on EE, maybe reconsider now.
 
I have a Parker Hale Safari 375HH I had a model 70 crf in a 270wsm, I really like the fit of the Parker Hale stock raised cheek piece a bit better than the Winchester stock, I would give the edge to the Winchester action for smoothness, If I had a Parker Hale or a Winchester that I liked I wouldn't be in a hurry to switch to the other.

On a standard internal mag M98 action, the feed rails are machined as part of the receiver. I'm not sure if PH modified the rails on the detachable mag guns but I suspect that's the case. If they didn't, then you could just buy an aftermarket or used bottom metal for a M98 action and get rid of the detachable mag.

I have looked at and worked on several mag equipped PH's but I can't remember how the feed rails looked. Maybe someone here can verify whether the feed rails have been modified or not or you'll have to do a bit of research.
 
The feed rails are the magazine lips on the DM model PHs.........not an easy fix as you have to TIG the rails to build them up and then machine to the correct profile to feed properly. The other way is a breeze from floorplate to DM.......but not from DM to floorplate. I'm pretty sure that I have seen a floorplate with an internal DM for the PH though, you might find one of these about. I had 2 DM PH Safaris bought new and both of them would drop magazines when fired with a full mag. Hated them and got rid of both in short order and went to 700 Rems and never looked back
 
not sure what you are asking but granted Im a wee bit slow..... why not get the Winchester anyways and keep the parker hale...so what if they are the same cal. Can you really have too many rifles, just a questions :) I love my .308 safari floor plate parker hale I bought on this site just a fantastic rifle IMO
